BenefitSmart is a nonprofit that helps working Americans understand their workplace benefits. We teach health insurance, HSAs, open enrollment, and more — completely free, through video education and written guides.
Free educational resource — no products, no upsells, no cost to employees
BenefitSmart is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the employee benefits literacy gap in the United States. Most workers receive a benefits package every year — and most workers don't understand what they have. That gap costs employees thousands of dollars annually in unclaimed tax savings, wrong plan choices, and missed enrollment windows.
We exist to change that. Through free video education, plain-language guides, and employer-facing literacy programs, BenefitSmart gives every worker — from the first-day hire to the 20-year veteran — the knowledge they need to make confident decisions about their benefits. Our content is written for people, not HR professionals. We are funded by grants and donations, never by insurance commissions.
A library of short, plain-language videos covering every core employee benefit — health insurance plans, HSA and FSA accounts, open enrollment, COBRA, life insurance, and 401(k) basics. Free to watch, no account required.

Partner with us →Section 125 cafeteria plans are one of the most powerful — and least understood — benefits available to workers. We explain how pre-tax payroll deductions work, what's eligible, and how employees can reduce their taxable income.

BenefitSmart was founded by Jacob Guidi, a licensed employee benefits advisor who spent years watching employees choose the wrong health plan, miss HSA contribution windows, and lose COBRA coverage — not because they didn't care, but because no one had ever explained their options clearly.
Most benefits education is written to protect the employer or the insurer. BenefitSmart exists to flip that — to put clear, unbiased information directly in the hands of the workers who need it. We serve employees across the United States, with a focus on small and mid-size business workforces where dedicated HR resources are limited.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We do not sell insurance. We do not earn commissions. Every resource we produce is free to access and free to share.
